Starfish have a circulatory system that is divided into three rings. The three rings are placed around the mouth, the digestive system, and near it’s genital area. The heart of a starfish beats, by the hemal system. This is not very efficient, but it gets the job done, acting as a one-way valve. It is able to beat and pump blood along a vertical channel that connects all the rings and through the gonads of each arm, which are used for reproduction and sometimes regeneration. The hemal system is also good in distributing useful nutrients throughout the starfish.
